Attorney-General Amos Wako has ordered the State to drop charges against a writer at the East African Standard who was to be prosecuted for defamation.
Wako said the law under which Kamau Ngotho was to be prosecuted was archaic and would no longer be applied, reports the
East African Standard. He urged people who wanted to take libel action to sue in a civil case as it was his policy not to prosecute persons for offences of criminal libel due to the importance attached to human rights and freedom of expression.
