Randoline murder trial stalled by witness problem

Issue No: 2414

Magistrate Alexis Damon-Zloch has warned that she will strike the case against Angelo Petersen (31) - accused of raping and murdering Randoline Fortune (2) - from the court roll if the state did not consult the witnesses, says a Cape Argus report.

Prosecutor Lorraine van Wyk had asked Damon-Zloch for a postponement in the Parow Regional Court because the state had had difficulty consulting the seven witnesses. The report says the witnesses, who included Randoline's mother and her grandparents, had later informed the state that the contact numbers it had were no longer active. Petersen, who is on R1 000 bail, was represented by Legal Aid lawyer Safia Karriem.
