Wonderboom flights halted
Published in: Legalbrief Today
Date: Wed 11 November 2009

Issue No: 2439

The Civil Aviation Authority put airline services to Cape Town and Durban from the Wonderboom airport in Pretoria on hold yesterday because the operator does not have authorisation to conduct the services.

According to a Beeld report, Interlink Airways was expected to begin operation on 31 October, but its aircraft are still being serviced and negotiations about an operator's licence are still in progress. CAA chief manager for operational aviation safety, Anton Richman, said Interlink Airlines wanted to use Boeing 737-200s on the routes, but the runway at Wonderboom is not long enough to allow these aircraft to take off with a full load of passengers and enough fuel to fly to Cape Town. Interlink spokesperson Neil Baines said all the people who paid for flights have been compensated or placed on alternative flights. He added the issues with the CAA would be sorted out 'within a day or two'.
