Two more witness testify in Bennett trial
Published in: Legalbrief Today

Category: Criminal
Issue No: 2451

Two more witnesses have testified in the trial of Movement for Democratic Change treasurer Roy Bennett, who is charged with possessing weapons for the purpose of committing acts of terrorism and inciting insurgency.

The Zimbabwe Guardian reports that the testimonies of Mutare-based Central Intelligence Organisation operative Michael Joseph Nyakatawa and Detective Superintendent Arnold Dhliwayo brings to three the number of state witnesses who have testified so far in the trial. Nyakatawa told the court that in 2006, he received information that arms dealer Peter Hitschmann had in his possession several unlicensed weapons. His office teamed up with the police and the army, and arrested Hitschmann. According to the report, the court heard that among the recovered weapons were explosives.
