Court slams law society’s seven-year disciplinary delay

Publish date: 02 November 2026

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) is generally held in high regard, both at home and elsewhere. However, as Carmel Rickard writes in her A Matter of Justice column on the Legalbrief site, the High Court in Nairobi has just made an order against the LSK’s disciplinary committee. The judge hearing the matter, Tabitha Wanyama Ouya, found that the disciplinary committee’s delay of seven years in finalising a dispute against two members of the LSK was unreasonable, and that the delay violated the complainant’s constitutional right to fair administrative action.
